This is staple in our family party scene. They are easy and delicious! I get so many compliments!! This is my mom recipe, which I think was her mom’s recipe and now it’s your recipe.
One of the great things about this recipe is how easy it is to make. You can complicate it of course, because, well… one can complicate anything, if you like! And if you would LIKE to complicate it… I have a great meatball recipe!! Really, its a family favorite! Not that making homemade meatballs is complicated, it is NOT!! But going to the grocery store and getting yourself some frozen (precooked) meatballs, makes this that much easier. And I like easy!
You can make these in a pot on the stove, but I find doing this in a crockpot easier. Just make sure if you’re using frozen meatballs that you adjust the temp accordingly. High = ready about 3+hours. Low= 5+hours. But if you’re using fresh (just baked) meatballs or even refrigerated (or made a head of time) they should be ready on High = about an hour. Really, just need to give them time to marinate with the sauce and warm through. *Remember, these are precooked meatballs you are putting into the crockpot, or pot on stove, with the sweet n’ sour sauce. And the one’s I’m using are frozen.
You are going to start on the stove top. Pick the size of your pot depending on if you will double this recipe or not. For my crock pot and parties, I usually double this. Here is all the ingredients you will need. Plus your meatballs (not pictured)
Put all ingredients into pot. I use a whisk because of the dry mustard, and whisk/stir til combined. Warm up til hot. Stirring occasionally.
Plug in crockpot, dump in meatballs, set crockpot temp to warm/hot depending on your time schedule. Carefully pour sweet n’ sour mixture over meatballs. I stir and turn them up a little, place lid on and walk away! That’s it! Easy peasy, lemon squeezie!
Now, like I mentioned earlier, this is a staple at parties. I don’t think I have ever had leftovers. We serve them on a little plate with a toothpick, as appetizers. But, I have also cut up pineapple and put it in the sauce and served over white or brown rice. Boom, dinner!!
Let me know if you make these and how you served them up! I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
